Brighton Festival Fringe Wrap-Up

It’s a wrap till next year! The Brighton Fringe closed up a few weeks ago. Below is a collection of some of the video previews that we hosted for the Fringe.

We are now looking forward to the Edinburgh Fringe in August where new things may be afoot, not just the new Comedy festival. Stay tuned…

Perhaps the ’serious music’ (viz contemporary concerts) might be of interest next time.
The Talkestra event of last year was nominated best event of the entire festival and it would have made an entertaining video.

    Hi Phil

Nice to hear from you again!

You are quite right. We would certainly love a better mix of musical genres on the website. We have found that many “serious musicians” are not keen to embrace the internet; perhaps it’s just a “time” thing here. Mind you some came on during the 2008 Brighton Festival Fringe which was absolutely wonderful!

Many congratulations on Talkestra’s Award at the Brighton Festival Fringe, a well deserved accolade for five talented musicians. If you are keen we would love to come along and video your show at the 2009 Brighton Festival Fringe – assuming Talkestra will be there? Let me know what you think Phil?

    Thanks Liz.
I will speak with TALKESTRA’s Steve Dummer who I know would be keen for any kind of coverage (as we all would be).
It’s also good that TALKESTRA is the attraction but there was also music written for them to play (including a piece of mine) but, perhaps, in this case, it really is the performers not the composers (the music, in fact) which creates the audience. This is very sobering for composers who are not (yet?) in the front line of publicity.
Notwithstanding the absence of TALKESTRA (as far as I know at present) the festival concert for NMB will be given by the MYRIAD WIND QUINTET who are every bit as professional and excellent as any TALKESTRA line-up so it would be fantastic to be filmed.

I will come back to you soon with further details.

I hope this is helpful (especially to us).

    Phil

    Hi Phil

We would be very happy to film the MYRIAD WIND QUINTET if TALKESTRA are not performing next year at the Brighton Festival Fringe. If New Music Brighton decides to put on TALKESTRA as well, just let us know.

You are right, composers do seem to be put in the back seat and it’s the musicians and the performance that gets the attention. In order to spotlight the composers it would be great if we could interview the composers from New Music Brighton involved with the MYRIAD WIND QUINTET as well as the musicians. I will email you a revised list of 10 Questions - what say you?

We look forward to learning more about New Music Brighton and the MYRIAD WIND QUINTET.

    Liz
