Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

Well, it’s a wrap for the Brighton Fringe as we bid farewell to its warm shores for another year.  We wish to say a big thank you to the Brighton Fringe management and all the artists who created their Virtual Flyers on Festival Previews.  It’s a great pleasure learning more about your work and your shows and we look forward to catching up with you all again next year… or at another festival or fringe.

Whilst there we met and filmed so many wonderful artists that it’s worth re-living a small selection again: Hilde and Rebekah, Frisky and Mannish, Nick Pynn, Baby Charles, Cherri Shakewell, Longtomb, Miss Merlin, Copperdollar, Anna, The Pocket Rocket from The Aviator Club, Des O’Connor, And the Devil May Drag You Under, The Drookit Dogs, The Aviator Club, Forget Me Not – Sharon Elizabeth, Jason Pimblett and Samantha Howard, The Insect Circus, The Morning Orchestra, Harmony Glen, Election Idol, Estrondo, The Brighton Beach Boys, The Curst Sons, David Devant and His Spirit Wife.

Without doubt we were extremely fortunate to interview a selection of highly talented artists: Jonathan Cash and his thought provoking show, The First DominoPeta Taylor and a wonderful Tom Stoppard EveningAndrew Brinded from the amazingly topical show, Election IdolBrian Mitchell from The October RevolutionsKt Simpson from CopperdollarLynn Ruth Miller and her show, Age is Amazing; Phil Baker from New Music Brighton; Lorraine Bowen and her most unusual show, Bedroom LullabyLady Garden the comedy sextet of charming ladies;  Chris Cross the zany contortionist;  Paul Martin the suave Cabaret artist and finally  Matt Pollard from The Rainbow Chorus.

And so we move on to the 3rd Tokyo Fringe Festival .  After Tokyo we are moving on to cover the FIRST ever Kyoto Fringe Festival so keep watching this space as we have more interviews to come.

Brazilian Beats – Estrondo

Check out Estrondo and this really groovy sound!  Their 22 piece percussion band put on an agile and animated display at Brighton’s Fringe City at the start of the Fringe and the crowd shoogled in their shoes!   The Brazilian music makes you want to party with its rich diffusion of Ameri-Indian, Portuguese and Africian sounds.

Last year they performed at the Joogleberry Playhouse, now known as the Latest Music Bar.  A change of venue this year saw them performing at Volks Bar in Maderia Drive.  Hopefully Estrondo will be back next year for a longer run.
