Brass Impact! are one of Scotland's most dynamic jazz ensembles, offering a unique presentation of big band jazz that is entirely new, fresh and exciting.Based in Paisley, and playing in the style of the ever popular big bands, our main aim is to provide our members and audiences with the opportunity to experience big band like they've never heard it before. Our horn section, made up of 5 trumpets, 3 mellophones, 1 Tenor Saxophone, and 4 baritones gives us a very unique and exciting sound. This unique sound comes from the use of non-traditional big band instruments such as 'forward facing' baritones (providing the trombone voice) and the very distinctive mellophones, which produce a sound similar to that of the mellophoniums used by the Stan Kenton Orchestra in the early 1960's.Mixed cleverly with the more traditional trumpets and saxophones, the baritones and mellophones allow us to add that extra 'kick' to the big swing numbers, as well as a rich, warm and luscious sound for the most delicate of ballads and vocal arrangements. Our unique brass sound is fused together with the drive and excitement of our 6 piece rhythm section, with the fabulous vocal talents of brother and sister duo, Pat Keating and Iain Ewing adding the finishing touches to our presentation.
