From Pasadena, California but now living in the UK, Guy Tortora is a singer, guitar player and writer of songs that are snapshots of life delivered with wry humour. UK Radio 2 DJ (and ex-singer with Manfred Man) Paul Jones has praised his skills as both songwriter and performer. He combines in his work the traditions of the varied elements of American music -- folk, blues, country & jazz -- both in his original compositions and in the standards and traditional songs he chooses to 'cover'. In solo or duo performances or with the Guy Tortora Band he has carved out a singular niche on the Roots 'n' Blues scene in the UK and Europe, from small acoustic stages to festivals. His musical adventures have been described as a personal Storyville, delivered with conviction and passion. He plays both acoustic and electric guitar, is a fince bottleneck player, and performs solo, duo, and with his band. His latest album on Turtledove Records is called 'Living on Credit' and is receiving airplay in the UK, Europe and the USA, with a live session due in November on the Paul Jones Show on R2. He will be performing at the Callander Jazz & Blues Festival with his UK band: Janos Bajtala (From Budapest, Hungary) on keys, George Perrin bass, and Adam Roman drums.' . . . as much understated soul as anyone has a right to expect. Well worth catching on the occasional times he plays live.' Americana-UK' Far too often blues albums end up being hot-to-trot guitar slingers showing off their stuff. Tortora focuses on great songs that are well sung.' Indie Music Review (USA)
