CONEY ISLAND BABYDuring this years Festival Fringe artist and illustrator Lisa Marsh will be exhibiting at Gulliver's Hotel, 10 New Stein, Brighton. Lisa will be showing paintings, prints and collage and this new collection of images titled 'Coney Island Baby'.Her portrayal of vintage fashionistas are a beautiful celebration of quirkiness, attitude and alternative style. Originally inspired by nostalgic New York sub-cultures, Lisa has recently turned her attention towards capturing the burgeoning Brighton Burlesque scene making the Fringe Festival the perfect showcase for her artwork. 'Coney Island Baby' will be running from the 5th-27th May 2007 from 10am - 8pm. About the ArtistThis is a really exciting opportunity for Lisa who having spent the past few years teaching and inspiring young people now makes her return as a full-time artist. Her mission is to re-discover a passion for drawing which began with a sketchbook, a packet of felt-tip pens and a three-month trip to Mexico to gain inspiration. However it was a fateful meeting with a colourful New York character that was to provide the real inspiration and Lisa quickly found herself on a plane to New York. The colourful character in question turned out to be ex-Calvin Klein model and vintage beauty Jelly Talia who introduced Lisa to a previously unknown world of burlesque bars, 1950's style counter-culture, rock chicks and sultry daydreamers. Immersed in Jenny's world Lisa filled sketchbook after sketchbook capturing the spirit of each and every person she encountered. The artwork on show is a celebration of that quirky, beautiful individuality. It is the same individuality of spirit that now attracts Lisa to the people and places in Brighton.With its colourful and graphic depiction of vintage vixens, burlesque beauties and sassy showgirls, this is a must see exhibition.
