A joint News Release from the
Brighton and Hove (actually) Gay Men’s Chorus
and
The Brighton Chamber Choir
In a unique musical event The Brighton and Hove (Actually) Gay Mens Chorus and the Brighton Chamber Choir will jointly present a production of The Mikado under the direction of both their Musical Directors; Jason Pimblett and Jane Money. With over seventy singers and musicians this special semi-staged performance will joyously celebrate the 125th anniversary of Gilbert and Sullivan’s crowning masterpiece. The cast will be joined by international Opera Star and Chorus Patron Lynton Black , who will play the title role . The show is part of the Brighton Fringe Festival. The performances on 30 April and 1 May will take place St Andrews, Waterloo Street at 19.30pm.
In 1885, Gilbert had the inspired idea of transporting mid-Victorian England into an oriental setting in a hilarious tale poking delicious fun at the British politics and politicians of the day and remains just as relevant today! Gilbert’s witty lyrics introduce The Mikado’s comic characters and Sullivan’s bountiful score is a sparkling gem, speeding the story along with a host of toe-tapping greats, including ‘Three Little Maids from School’, ‘Tit-Willow’, and ‘The Flowers that Bloom in the Spring’.
Chorus Chairman John Hamilton said – ‘’The Mikado promises to be a very memorable experience. And a continuation of the Chorus’ desire to sing a broad repertoire of music. The Combined choirs are looking forward to having a great time singing this gem of a show. There are many G and S fans in Brighton and Hove. I hope that others who don’t know their work will come along and enjoy it too.’’
Tickets £12 available via the Fringe Box office at the Dome and on www.brightonfestivalfringe.org and through Chorus website www.bhagmc.org as well as at The Iron Duke Pub.
