Serving cop Alfie Moore speaking out about
‘political correctness gone mad’
In the aftermath of election fever stand up comedian, and serving police officer, Alfie Moore brings his show The Laughter Police to the Brighton Festival Fringe. His one hour show challenges thinking and behaviours in society and modern British policing.
Despite election promises of more prisons, legislation and ASBOs whoever is in power will have the same challenge – not enough cops on the streets. The Laughter Police poses the question - do the British public want less time spent on Health & Safety, risk assessments and diversity policies and more time spent catching the bad guys?
Alfie is a serving police sergeant who in seventeen years has seen it all. He’s been spat on, beaten and stabbed. Survived paperwork, policies and political correctness and now speaks out, through his show, as he thinks that the pendulum has swung too far. “I’m very proud to be a police officer but there is a danger that bureaucracy is sinking what I believe to be the finest criminal justice system in the world. Humour is a thought-provoking vehicle for raising awareness of some of the ridiculous constraints within which we operate and the daily dangers and conflicts”.
In his day job Alfie Moore is a Neighbourhood Sergeant where comedy is an effective tool to maintain morale and defuse difficult situations. He sees this show as a very effective form of community engagement.
The Laughter Police is part of the Laughing Horse at the Temple, 121 Western Road, Brighton, BN1 2AD and runs for 3 nights from 10th to 12th May 2010.
Go and see it – you have the right to remain silent but you won’t help but laugh.
