The SHAFTAs
A comedy sketch awards show
Reading Berks Productions will be performing ‘The SHAFTAs’ comedy sketch awards show as part of the London Festival Fringe from Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st August 2010, 8.30pm at the Phoenix Artist Club in Soho, London WC2H 0DT. Tickets cost £8.
The SHAFTAs awards ceremony is the Who's Who of A and Z list celebrities struggling with their pride, nerves and bodily functions. Find out who wins the nice ‘n' shiny trophies symbolising public acceptance and more importantly who doesn’t. Nomination categories include 'Hairiest talk show host' and 'Best Celebrity Death'. The show is set to be a great evening of singing, sketches and lots of laughter.
The group performed their sell out show, ‘Thames Valley Pop Up Sketchbook’ last July at the Henley Fringe Festival which was reviewed by the Fringe Report: “a cultural collage with charming observation.” Reading Berks Productions formed in 2008, performing at the Reading Comedy Festival. The group consists of writers, actors, comedians and directors whose main focus is having fun while producing a professional and entertaining show that can be enjoyed by adults aged 16 and above.
Producer Wendy Thomson is excited about the London Festival Fringe and says: “We have all got ties to Reading hence our name the ‘Reading Berks’– it’s an easy place to live and even easier to leave (thanks to great transport links). We have an exciting mix of people from different backgrounds including I.T, financial services, marketing, theatre and even the local constabulary; we’re not a dog act but we could win Britain’s Got Talent!”
The Reading Berks Director, Louise Croombs, who was recently awarded Gold for "Best Newcomer 2010" from the Hospital Broadcasting Association for her radio show says, “Writing, directing and performing for a show can be a challenge but if you want something to be great then it is worth it. We Berks never shy away from a challenge - our new show "The SHAFTAs" is original new writing at its best but most of all barrels of fun. We can't wait for you to see it!”
