When salesman Bill is trapped in a lift with the cause of his latest commercial failure, it forces a re-evaluation of their lives. See Bill (Alan Moorhouse) and Jim (Brian Gillett) pool their philosophies and pet hates to elevate themselves.
What is so Uplifting?
The two men trapped in a lift perceive each other as enemies but first impressions can be deceptive. Bill is an unsuccessful salesman with a weary outlook on life due to his uninspiring job, hostile boss and his nervous disposition around women. After an unsuccessful presentation in a high rise office building ruined by Jim, a vertigo-ridden window cleaner on his first day, both men explore their talents, philosophies, phobias and pet hates to help free themselves from their physical and mental prisons too.
Who is Uplifting you?
The Atre Company is a newly formed theatre company, from Hook, Hampshire; brainchild of Alan Moorhouse. A veteran amateur actor/producer/director, Alan formed the company after visiting the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2009. He decided, boldly, that he could muster his theatrical experience and contacts to create fringe productions to exceed what he had seen in relevance to everyday modern life. Uplifting is the first such production.
Why be Uplifted?
The production, based mainly in an confined area of the stage (the lift), uses stagecraft, characters and sketches to illustrate the protagonists conversational struggles. The audience will identify with or recognise each character and also the modern follies of life like overcomplication, the nanny state, the blame game and lack of control. The writing fresh, the feeling familiar, the result - Uplifting!
