Part of Roger Doyle’s latest composition series,
this is cinema for the ear
For six performances only
As part of ABSOLUT Fringe 2010
THE ROOM IN THE TOWER
Roger Doyle will unveil his latest composition The Room In The Tower during this year’s ABSOLUT Fringe when he will take up residence in the Kevin Barry Room in National Concert Hall from September 13 – 18.
A soundtrack for an imaginary film, The Room In The Tower reveals a horror story based on a recurring nightmare. In the dimly lit room of a haunted house in the early 20th century, a story unfolds through recorded dialogue, electronic sounds and the ethereal live vocals of Vyvienne Long and Doyle on piano.
Scripted by Carlo Gebler, a tale unfolds that will linger long after you've witnessed it.
Roger Doyle has worked extensively in theatre, film and dance, in particular with the music-theatre company Operating Theatre, which he co-founded with actress Olwen Fouéré. Babel, his magnum opus, was begun in 1990 and had its first public showing in an entire wing of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1992 as a dance piece. He was also commissioned by RTÉ for a new work, Adolf Gebler, clarinettist, for symphony orchestra and pre-recorded acted scenes, which was the first in the series.
Roger now continues his journey with the second of his ‘cinema for the ear’ series The Room In The Tower.
