SHADES OF BLUE
Blues & Soul Review
SHOW DATES:
Saturday 7th May @ 4.15pm
Sunday 8th & Monday 9th May @ 5.30pm
Blues and soul vocalist Kerry Jo Hodgkin has sung in venues from Ronnie Scott’s in London to BB King’s in New York. Her training as an actress brings with it an extraordinary ability to interpret lyrics, which, added to her innate musicality and exceptional vocal range, makes her an outstanding vocalist and performer. Kerry’s silk-and-steel vocals have been likened to divas such as Eva Cassidy and Etta James!
Kerry has been a professional singer for over two decades. A 33 Records recording artiste, she has worked successfully on the UK Jazz scene for many years – with successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 and 2010 with her show “Jazz Table in the Corner” at the award-winning Jazz Bar. However, 2010 saw Kerry re-discover her musical spiritual home in blues and soul. Since then she has sung with the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Experience, has begun writing a new blues album and is due to appear as part of the inaugural London Blues Festival in May 2011.
At Brighton Festival Fringe 2011 Kerry will be performing in duo with Chichester based guitarist Kevin Walker. Expect an impressive programme of contemporary blues and soul, featuring some well-chosen original material along with repertoire from Bonnie Raitt, Shemekia Copeland, Alannah Myles, Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin and many more…
Watch out for Kerry’s other show – Kiss of the Red Menace (a tribute to Kander & Ebb) – also at the Caroline of Brunswick, in which she performs as Cabaret Diva-Chanteuse Melody La Rouge.
